Vacation, frustration and sadly no hope

Well, it isn't really as bad as it sounds, but it is without a doubt - stupid.

I want to get away for Christmas. Sounds simple. I don't do Christmas. And everyone here is away anyhow!

I have a routine that I like - generally in February, round my birthday - grab a flight to Orlando, book a rental car and stop in at one of the coupon stores on Bronson Hwy - book a hotel for a few days, see what the weather is and take it from there. If it is nice play a bunch of golf in Kissimmee or drive til it gets warm.

I have done this a half dozen times. I really like it - it suits me.

Well, I thought repeating this say from the 20th of December to the first week in Jan would be a snap.

No.

First, flights are scarce. Lots of deals - til you try and book em. Second the 150/week rental car I generally grab in February is (Get ready for this) $1500 - $2500 a week. Fuck that. Oh and that is for the cheapest car. I did contact a service can get me a car for like 750. But subject to availability and cannot guarantee this for when I arrive ... sheeeesh.

Hey, I don't want to buy the car just rent it.

Now, after that sticker shock I start to look for all-inclusives. Nope. Not for a single. DBL occupancy only.

Ok so I search for singles vacations. OHMIGOD! Nope - I am definitely NOT going on a cougar-fest on some boat or worse at some enclave where I would be trying to scale the walls for my life.

So...

Option 1 - hop in the Purple Haze and drive somewhere. Where? No clue.

Option 2 - be placed in stasis until after the New Year and the rates come back to earth.

Option 3 - stay put and work.

If buying paint were like renting a car ...

Me: I need a gallon of latex off white please.

Paint Dude: Sure that will be 12.95 - but when are you planning to paint?

Me: Dec 20

Paint Dude: Oh, well that will be 89.50 .... Oh and how many people will be painting?

Me: Oh just me

Paint Dude: Oh, that will be an additional 65 dollars
