Why can't we all just get along?

This is about browsers. The fact that the Net should treat content and the user with the strategy of the lowest common denominator has long since been chucked out. Baby, bath water, soap, sponges and the damn sink!

In this recent article David Chan talks about having to use 3 browsers http://blogcritics.org/scitech/article/why-i-need-to-use-three/

In a recent update Firefox 4 - I have two main machines (Macs) and a PC. The MacBook upgraded fine, but my G5 (non Intel) would not plus it over rode my existing FF 3 - I did find Ten For Fox G5 - which is working fine. The PC did its usual upgrade routine ... I went for coffee.

A quick bug a boo - not the browsers fault - was when I went to that article it took over 20 seconds to load - ad-cdn-technoratimedia.com was chugging away in the background. Normally I would say "Meh" and not wait, but I was interested. So interested it prompts this post and my complaint. This happens all too frequently when the ad servers are looking for the appropriate ads to serve up, while we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait ... that repetition was no where near the 20+ seconds I waited for. It is a huge waste of time and I cannot believe it helps your brand. The media sites seem to be the worst offenders.

Anyway, je digress ...

Browsers should work. Full stop. Programmers should program their sites and apps that they work. God knows IE never has. Especially if you have built web pages and had to check your work on Safari, FF, Chrome and IE. IE is, and always has been, brutal. Beautiful elegant work done building a site has repeatedly looked like you made it on an Etch-a-Sketch when viewed on IE on a PC. Ok, hell I will go back to command line if that is what ya want Mr MS!

The CMS world - a world of their own - is all over the map. I use a bunch of content management systems and I HAVE to switch browsers to get them to work. Things like Internic, my two banking accounts, two CMS I run for organizations, my email software and my hosting software all have peculiarities that you have to learn to get them to work right. THAT flies directly in the face of usability. Recognition vs recall.

One thing I just found is that Firefox 4 does not work on Kijiji. They will no doubt work out the bugs at their end, but come on folks!
